
FREDERICTON, January 6, 2025 – New Brunswickers looking to recycle their batteries will have access to even more drop-off locations following today’s official launch of an Extended Producer Responsibility program for batteries.EPR is an environmental policy approach in which producers are responsible for managing their products from manufacturing through o end-of-life. New Brunswick’s battery program will be managed by Call2Recycle, a Producer Responsibility Organization that operates the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program in eight other provinces, as well as the Yukon Territory.
Through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, New Brunswickers will be able to recycle a range of rechargeable and single-use batteries. Recycle NB is an arm’s-length government agency whose role is to ensure that materials designated by the Minister of the Environment and Local Government are managed in a manner that assures a healthier environment. In addition to batteries, Recycle NB currently oversees recycling programs for tires, paint, oil and glycol, electronic products, packaging and paper products, pharmaceutical products and medical sharps, beverage containers and lightbulbs.
