World Environment Day

June 1-7 is Environment Week in Canada

NEW BRUNSWICK, June 2, 2025 – New Brunswickers are encouraged to participate in an activity that will help protect the environment in recognition of Environment Week, which takes place this year from June 1-7.

Established in 1971, Environment Week celebrates Canada’s environmental accomplishments and encourages Canadians to contribute to conserving and protecting their environment. Community clean-ups, organized tree plantings and reducing household waste are just a few initiatives that will make a difference. New Brunswickers can also recycle designated materials, including paint, oil and glycol, tires, electronics, packaging and paper products, pharmaceutical products and medical sharps, and beverage containers.

Every year, Environment Week coincides with World Environment Day, which takes place on June 5. This United Nations global event has been celebrated since 1974. It aims to engage governments, businesses and citizens in an effort to address environmental issues of concern. The theme of World Environment Day this year is ending plastic pollution. For more information about becoming involved, visit https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/.

Clean Air Day in Canada and World Oceans Day are also recognized during Environment Week, on June 4 and 8 respectively. Clean Air Day promotes the importance of good air quality to our health and environment, and World Oceans Day raises awareness about protecting and restoring our beautiful oceans.
