Our journey forward

Celebrating our achievements in our 2022 annual report

Hello July – the month of warm days, strawberries, gardens in full bloom, summer vacations and, of course, our beautiful country’s birthday.

Here at Recycle NB, July also means celebrating the completion of our 2022 annual report. In it, we report on each of our programs and their respective achievements, as well as highlight some notable events that will be happening in the current year.

Here are a few highlights from 2022:

  • 1,508,013 used tires collected.
  • 275,107 litres of unused paint collected.
  • 3,490,723 litres of used oil collected.
  • 983 metric tonnes of electronics collected.

Our report also talks about the status of some of our other programs, which are in the developmental stages. Phase 1 of the Packaging and Paper Products program will launch on November 1, 2023, and the Pharmaceutical Products and Medical Sharps program is expected to launch in early 2024. We also assumed oversight of the beverage container program, which was added to the Designated Materials Regulation as an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program on April 1, 2023 (you will hear more about this in the coming months). And finally, we anticipate adding Extended Producer Responsibility programs for batteries and lightbulbs.

As you can see, these are exciting times for Recycle NB.

“These are the steps that mark our journey forward as we work to meet waste diversion targets for New Brunswick.” – Erik Matchett, Chair Recycle NB Board of Directors, 2022 Annual Report
