Let's go wild!

Celebrate dandelions during No Mow May

The bees are awake. The hummingbirds are on their way. The tulips and daffodils are blooming. You know what that means?

It means leave your lawnmowers right where they are because No Mow May is here.

Recycle NB is once again joining many other environmentally minded organizations in New Brunswick in encouraging folks to hold off mowing their lawn for the month of May. Those first few dandelions and other flowering plants are an important food source for many pollinators, particularly in early spring, and adopting a no-mow or reduced-mow approach will help to boost populations.

For a bit of background, No Mow May originated in the United Kingdom a few years ago in response to declining bee and other insect populations. We are happy to say that it is quickly catching on in communities around the world, including many in New Brunswick.

So, enjoy the break from lawn maintenance, and should you feel compelled to share a photo of your beautiful, dandelion-filled lawn, please feel free to do so on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Everyone who submits a photo will be entered into a draw for some Recycle NB swag. In the meantime, just a reminder to recycle your used oil when you tune up your mower in June. Check our website to find a collection depot near you. https://www.recyclenb.com/oil-map

 Happy No Mowing everyone!
