October is Circular Economy Month

Waste Reduction Week takes place from October 16-20

NEW BRUNSWICK, October 1, 2023 – Recycle NB is encouraging New Brunswickers to participate in Circular Economy Month by organizing events and helping to spread the word.

A circular economy aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability by keeping resources in use for as long as possible. It goes beyond the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle, and encourages industry to design products that can be used over and over so that we consume fewer raw materials, preserving our natural resources.

Ideas for Circular Economy Month include organizing a community-wide recycling collection event where residents can bring their recyclables or initiating a waste reduction program at your school or business. Circular Economy Month is a nation-wide initiative organized by the Circular Innovation Council to educate and engage Canadians in waste reduction efforts and celebrate environmental successes. The initiative began in 2001 with Waste Reduction Week, held annually during the third week of October, but last year, expanded to become Circular Economy Month. Through partnerships, resources, and events, Circular Economy Month familiarizes Canadians with circular economy concepts and practices, celebrates innovators, encourages action, and more.
