 The first week of June marks Environment week in Canada where we will ask you to continue to keep recycling in mind and to promote and challenge those you love to do the same. To better show your commitment and spread the message, you can take a photo or video and show us how you are honoring this special week and day by using the following hashtag; #rnbenviroweek on either our Facebook or Instagram. It is important to be conscious about our lifestyle choices and we can do so by reminding one another to reduce, re-use and recycle whenever possible in our daily lives. We look forward to seeing how you will join our vision in moving beyond waste!

Environment week is meant to exist alongside World Environment day, which is the largest global celebration of its kind recognized by millions of people in over 100 countries. This day was created by the United Nations in 1972 and officially held in 1974 to encourage people to act on the environment – asking each of us around the globe to bring awareness and participate in making our world a better place by taking care of it as best as we can. Although it feels as if this concern for the environment is something trending today, the truth is, it has been an issue that is important to all of us for quite some time now.

Each year, the UN and a host country decide on a theme, this year China as the host country has decided on the theme of Air Pollution. In line with the 2019 theme, the UN has encouraged people to consider how we can change our daily habits to reduce the amount of air pollution we produce which damages our health and that of the Earth. The UN has taken it upon itself to challenge us stating
“Nine out of ten people breathe polluted air. From 24 May, through to #WorldEnvironmentDay on June 5, we are calling on everyone to join the Mask Challenge. Face masks are a great symbol to show leaders we want to breathe clean air.”

4: Type your postal code or location 
5: Head to the depot closest to you and drop-off
6: Feel good! You just took one more step into making our world a better place.
